Overcome Procrastination

By Louis Yagera

I have to do it now, but I have little motivation today and I just got the new ‘War of the Worlds’ DVD, let do my work tomorrow. Tomorrow: ah yes, I don’t have enough energy let do something else than working…… someday I will do my stuffs. You see a pattern ?

In today world there are so many opportunities for distraction that you can easily be sucked into them. For people working with Internet distractions include email reading then you have instant messaging, forums, RSS feed/blog, all those things are extremely time consuming. They are unnecessary distractions but what really keep someone out of focus from his goals and duties is a couple of factors that must be handle.

How to end the awful procrastination

Energy

If you have a messed up lifestyle , you eat too much junk foods, no exercises, too much television, Internet, Video game. You are ripping yourself a lot of energy. The first step is to have a decent level of energy from there you will be able to build some more energy and be motivated as your ability to achieve things increase. If you want to start exercising or change diet, read this ’30 days to success’ blog entry by Steve Pavlina, It will be inspirational .

Clarity

What do you want to achieve anyway ? It is very important to know exactly what you want, the clearer you are about your goals the easier it will be to pay attention and stay focused on your path to success. Sanaya Roman wrote in her book ‘Living with Joy’, ‘When you are clear on your purpose, your intent, your motivation, your agreements, when you are clear on your communications, action flows. Many of you want to start with clarity of action, and yet it is clarity of purpose that is the starting point’. Set clear goals, your most important ‘want’ is probably something you enjoyed doing when you are a child but that for some reason are not doing right now, or if you are doing it, may be, you are wasting too much on ‘should’ and ‘must’ activities, which are a less important for your being.

Motivation

When you have clear goals, it is necessary to stay motivated until you complete your goals. Here are a few tips to stay motivated.

  • Write your goals in various place in your home, so you have your goals often on your mind
  • Write each morning 25 affirmations about your goals
  • Visualize your goals completed each morning for at least 15 minutes
  • Visualize your goals achievement at night before you fall asleep
  • Read motivational books
  • Listen to motivational tapes
  • If possible find a mentor but this one is not necessary , I read about this one in a book about small business success.
  • Work with self-hypnosis, there are self-hypnosis scripts for motivation and procrastination.

Be disciplined

And this one is may be the most difficult to apply, you can make it, a 30 days challenge, if you want, stick to a task until it is completed.

…today quote, for the people who procrastinate too much are :

The best way to get something done is to begin.

To think too long about doing a thing often becomes its undoing. Eva Young
